They stayed and listened to stories of their marriage and younger years. Cecilia and Judy made sure to comfort this grieving wife in her darkest hours.
Cecilia was assisting a patient who was admitted overnight following a complex surgery. The wife who was in her 80s, had been with the patient in the hospital for over 12 hours while her husband was critical, then placed on hospice and shortly after passed away. The wife was tired, hungry, and had none of her medications while she sat by her husband’s side all day long. Cecilia sat with the wife as much as possible.

Out of concern and compassion, Cecilia drove the wife’s car to the couple’s home while a coworker followed in her own car since it was a dark and rainy night. The wife of the patient invited both nurses into her home to share photos of her and her husband of 60 years. They stayed and listened to stories of their marriage and younger years. Cecilia and Judy made sure to comfort this grieving wife in her darkest hours.

Once they left the wife’s home, Judy drove the two of them back to work to get her own vehicle. Following all of this, the wife reached out to share this story. The wife was so overwhelmed while sharing, that she cried the whole time. The wife was incredibly thankful as she referred to Cecilia as her angel that night. With family that lived far away, the wife would have had no support at home, but they would not let that happen. Cecilia went above and beyond the call of duty that night to comfort a lonely and grieving widow. We are blessed to work with such a caring soul.
