I am the husband of a patient who was on the Oncology Unit for two weeks in January. She had Cecilia on several shifts. We recognize her as a DAISY because we agree that one special feature of an outstanding nurse is her capacity to communicate and empathize with the patient. In this respect, Cecilia is superb. In her very first shift with my wife, Cecilia demonstrated her exceptional capacity to empathize with her patients by sitting down at the bedside with my wife. Recognizing that a side-effect of her chemotherapy was her depressed feeling of hopelessness, Cecilia prayed with her in such a heartfelt way, that her spirits were immediately lifted. My wife often spoke of the gift that Cecilia had brought so generously given her.
Thereafter, my wife showed brighter spirits whenever Cecilia came into her room!
