My husband’s grandfather, J, was in CCU on the 4th floor at MCH for 3 days. His family and I were very pleased with every nurse that provided J care during his time there, but one nurse, in particular, was extraordinary. Her name was Cecilia. Like the other nurses, she was kind, caring, and willing to answer all of our questions, but what set her apart was her compassion for the members of J’s family.

On Wednesday, she went above and beyond to contact radiology to ensure they could get Dr. A some results before he left so he could come and speak with us. She knew that we were all anxious to hear the results. Unfortunately, the results confirmed what we had feared - we would need to remove J from his ventilator so that he could pass peacefully. The next day, Cecilia was there when we started this process. She printed out copies of J's heartbeat and put them in little bottles for his family members to keep. She also printed out his last heartbeat and flatline for my mother-in-law, and J's daughter to have. We were all so thankful for her compassion and acts of kindness during our time of loss. They were very appreciated and made a big impression on each of us.
