Cecille Alima, known as Joy, was nominated by a colleague for her “extraordinary compassion, dedication, and dignity” provided to a patient and his family during the transition to hospice at home.

“Joy closely monitored his symptoms and made sure that every comfort measure was attended to with tenderness and precision,” noted the colleague. When Joy noticed that the patient was comforted by his wife’s presence, she arranged for a recliner so they could hold hands throughout the night. Additionally, Joy borrowed a cassette player so that the patient could listen to Mozart softly through the night. “Joy didn’t just provide nursing care. She transformed a clinical environment into a sacred space of love, dignity, and peace.”
