May 2025 Honoree
Cederic Avola, RN
With a spinal fracture that resulted in using a walker to try to get out of bed, I can't say that my stay in the CDU was "comfortable" - but somehow Cederic made it enjoyable for my family members! He was thorough, compassionate, and warm with me, and most notably, absolutely incredible with my little daughter. I never would have thought any of us could smile and laugh through such a brutal experience, but he made that possible. Six-year-old H was stuck in the room with me for long hours, but Cederic had so much fun with her that she didn't want to go home!
Here is what H (a Boston Children's complex CKD patient, with far too much hospital experience herself) wanted to say:
"Cederic made a balloon unicorn with me and helped me be Mommy's nurse! He helped Mommy walk and got me ice cream at the same time, like magic! He's so funny, and he's the best nurse; that's why he should win the trophy! I think I want to be a nurse someday like Cederic. I wish he could play with me every day. Thank you for making my Mommy better and teaching me, and for my unicorn, I love you!"

Thank you, Cederic, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
