August 2019 Honoree
celeste simmons, RN
I am an employee here at Centennial but was recently a patient when I delivered my son. I am a first-time mom and openly admitted to everyone that I had no idea what I was doing. The day my son was born was a happy day, filled with visitors and plenty of help. As the sun went down, my room on Mother/Baby emptied and it was just my husband, the baby and me. I began to get overwhelmed and anxious with how little I knew about this new baby of mine and how to take care of him. Then, we met Celeste. The moment Celeste came into our room I felt reassured. She was genuinely kind and caring and never judged us for asking questions. She had a wealth of information about taking care of my post-partum body and taking care of a newborn. When it came time for bed, she offered to watch our son in the nursery so that we could get some much-needed sleep. I slept well knowing that my baby was in good hands. In the morning, I was disappointed to learn that Celeste would not be back the following evening. (I think that she is a nurse in the NICU and was helping out on Mother/Baby for a night.) As a nurse, I know good care when I see it. Celeste gives exceptional care and we are so thankful to have met her.
Thank you, Celeste, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
