“I arrived to the orthopedic unit on Memorial Day Saturday to find that I was the only RN for the entire unit with one aid and 5 patients requiring much assistance. As a fairly new PRN nurse, I admit that I felt a bit stranded there alone. Even tiny things like finding the critical lab stickers took forever because I didn’t know where they were. Celia was scheduled for ICU that day, but her patients were transferred out. She could have gone home before lunch!! Instead she offered to come over and help me instead. She stayed over 6 hours that day and her presence made it possible to give the patients excellent care. I would not have been able to chart at all on my shift had she not been there. Celia is my RN hero. Not only do I admire her skills as an ICU RN, but I admire the fact that she was willing to step out of her highly specialized role to help me. She is a humble leader for all of us to follow. I learned new nursing skills from her yesterday and learned what a true friend and professional acts like.”
