A mother came into Labor and Delivery (L & D) and delivered a premature baby within 30 minutes of arrival.
Celia was the assigned nursery RN. She calmly stabilized the baby in L & D and then transferred him to the nursery. Celia was commended by the nurses in L & D and Mother/Baby for calmly giving directions on what to do. By the time the neonatologist had arrived, she had already started (2) heplocks, primed the IV fluid, drawn labs and placed the infant on respiratory support.
When I arrived, the infant was stable and the unit was operating quietly and efficiently. As the neonatologist was leaving, she came over to Celia and told her what a great job she had done in stabilizing the infant in preparation for transport to a higher level of care. It was nice to see how Celia acted in the team leader role in bringing the L & D and Mother /Baby nurses to work together until the other nursery RNs arrived to help. Good Job, Celia.
