It was a dark day for me and my family when my mother was found barely conscious on her bathroom floor from a ruptured brain aneurysm. There were so many wonderful, caring and knowledgeable staff at Hackensack University, but there was one person who made a difference. This person is Chae from the Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Some of the best days my mom had were when Chae was her nurse.
Chae was very compassionate. Knowing that she was dealing with critical patients all the time and the patient's visitors, whom can be not so nice at times, not once did she ever treat my mother with anything but compassion.
My mother's injury caused her not to be able to communicate for herself. Chae was able to deal with her skillfully and promptly with any new situations and difficulties as they arose without blinking an eye.
Oh my, was Chae knowledgeable. I learned so much from Chae. Anytime a doctor spoke to me, I (of course) had a ton of questions, as I know nothing of the medical profession and therefore, the conversations were way over my head. Chae was able to explain to me in terms that my sisters and I could understand.
Chae is a very caring person. My family and I were downstairs eating and when we were done and getting ready to go back upstairs we saw Chae at the ATM machine. Most employees would put their head down and pretend not to see you as they just want to go home at the end of their shift. But not Chae, she took the time to stop and speak to us with such empathy and kindness.
Thank you, Chae, for all that you did for my mother and our family.
