I was very impressed today as I observed Chantel demonstrating genuine compassion and love for her patients. She had taken the time to explain a patient's condition to their family and consoled them through the accepting process. She was even hugging the patient's family members. I could really see her sincerity. In the same day she jumped in as a patient was nearing their last minutes. Although this was not her patient, she was driven to be near her and to hold her hand as there were no family members who had made it to the hospital yet. God bless her for not letting this individual pass on alone. Nurses and other staff members are easily caught up with our daily tasks such as charting, answering various phone calls, and talking with ancillary staff. She took the time and slowed down. She valued and understood where she was needed. Chantel was a prime example of what a nurse's foundation was built upon that many of us have forgotten. I'm thankful for Chantel today and find her an asset to the nursing profession.
