Her clinical instructors praised her poise, empathy, and ability to connect with pediatric patients and their families in meaningful ways.
Charellise Coleman, a Fall 2020 graduate of the Malcolm X College School of Nursing, exemplified compassionate care, academic excellence, and service leadership throughout her time as a student.

A standout in both didactic and clinical settings, Charellise was known for her thoughtful engagement in the Pediatric Nursing course, where she consistently demonstrated mastery of content and a sincere commitment to patient advocacy. Her clinical instructors praised her poise, empathy, and ability to connect with pediatric patients and their families in meaningful ways.

Outside the classroom, Charellise brought her compassion into the community. As part of her church’s outreach ministry, she engaged in faith-based community health initiatives that served underserved populations, delivering health education and wellness resources with dignity and grace. This community involvement reflected the DAISY spirit of going above and beyond in care.

Charellise was also a student leader, serving as Vice President of the Student Nurses Association at Malcolm X College and as Second Vice President for the Chicago Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, roles through which she mentored peers and uplifted the voices of aspiring nurses of color.

Originally nominated in December 2019, Charellise continues to embody the values of excellence and compassion that define DAISY Honorees. Her legacy remains a source of inspiration to both faculty and future nurses at Malcolm X College.
