It was the little things, making sure he was comfortable, adjusting his pillow/blankets, brushing his teeth. Attending to him like he was one of their own family members, that's what was so impressive to me.
My brother was admitted to Boulder Community Hospital and passed two days later. His cirrhosis of the liver end stage was more than his body could handle. We, the family, knew this day was coming, but when it does, it is neither expected nor easy. However, Charla and Kelly did everything and more within their means to extend his life and for him to make a recovery. My brother's pre-existing conditions made it even harder for Charla and Kelly to do their jobs. They sure tried! Constantly adjusting the machines, changing the different medications, IVs, looking at the data, monitoring his levels, and always moving. It was the little things, making sure he was comfortable, adjusting his pillow/blankets, brushing his teeth. Attending to him like he was one of their own family members, that's what was so impressive to me. Then when the decision came to let him escape to peace, they did their jobs efficiently and quickly so we could have time with him. After about 10 minutes or less, he passed on, confirming it was the right decision. Charla and Kelly fought back tears and were giving hugs to us (the family). So... if you ever find yourself in BCH, in the ICU, and have the means to ask for Charla and Kelly, you won't find two better, capable, and compassionate nurses. Thank you!
