Charlene Brown, RN

Char Brown was my nurse during one of the nights when my preeclampsia was severe, and I cannot say enough about how exceptional she was. I experienced multiple dangerously high blood pressure readings, and Char responded immediately and decisively. She quickly contacted the physician, administered my IV medications, applied seizure precautions, and closely monitored my vitals every hour.

What made her care even more remarkable was that she had several new admissions on the floor that same shift, yet she never made me feel like I wasn’t a priority. Despite everything going on around her, she remained fully present, attentive, and in control. Notably, this was also the same day a tornado had passed just a few miles away, and she still showed up for her shift ready to care for her patients. Even in such a high-stress situation—when a blood pressure of 200/100 would be terrifying to most—Char kept the atmosphere calm with her humor and reassurance. She made me feel safe, supported, and far less afraid during a very intense and vulnerable time. I am incredibly grateful for her strength, skill, and compassion.
