Charlene DiMenco was nominated for selflessly taking a patient to visit a sick family member who was being transferred to Stanford in the middle of a busy day.
Charlene's patient learned that her family member's health was declining and grew very worried about their well-being. She asked Charlene in tears if she could visit her family member before they were transferred to Stanford.
"Without hesitation, Charlene put her patient in a wheelchair and personally wheeled her to the other side of the hospital," a nominator wrote in a nomination letter. "Charlene knew that time was of the essence because the patient could be transferred at any time."
Through her decision, Charlene was able to touch the lives of both patients and all of the staff members who witnessed their reunion.
"I was personally moved to tears by Charlene's actions," her nominator wrote. "As busy as Charlene was with discharges and admissions, she still took the time to make her patient's wish come true and everyone was grateful for it."
