My mother came in for a small needle biopsy with an ultrasound. The feeling of unknown circumstances had her really on edge and her nerves started wearing on her before her procedure, wanting to ask for something to calm her down. Her nurse, Charles, worked his magic and he was the calming medication that she needed. She expressed her concerns to him about how nervous she was and after he spoke with the doctor about her concerns (right away), he came back into the room, sat on the bed with my mom, a comforting hand on hers, and explained to her how simple the procedure is expected to be. He walked her through breathing techniques to ease the anxiety some and within one minute he had my mom completely calm and ready to proceed with the procedure. He calmed her in a way that I was unable to do with all of his kind words and reassurance. I was blown away with his bedside manner that he showed for my mom, and I am SO thankful that he was her nurse. Charles gave both my mother and I hope that there are amazing people out there that are truly meant to be doing what they are doing, taking care of patients. Today, he showed us the definition of COMPASSION and bedside manner. There needs to be more people like him. What an asset!!
