A good nurse is not made with one specific incident but a compilation of many. Charles goes above and beyond to make sure that patients are safe. He keeps calm at all times and doesn't get frustrated when faced with tough situations. He can take account of an issue and handle it in a timely manner. Charles is always cooperative with staff and works tirelessly to make my day (and that of other coworkers) a bit easier. Even on bad days, he's making jokes and smiling. All in all, Parkland (and our patients) are lucky to have him.
***
Charles is an outstanding oncology nurse who always goes above and beyond in helping his patients along with working collaboratively with doctors, pharmacists, and other nurses. He gives his utmost attention to each individual with whom he communicates, no matter how busy he may be. I have seen him handle difficult patient situations with ease and confidence while always maintaining a positive attitude. As a pharmacist, I am able to rely on his expertise in oncology and patient care to ensure that our patients are safely and efficiently taken care of.
There have been multiple situations where I am unable to contact the appropriate nurse to obtain pertinent patient information and he will go the extra mile even when it may not be his responsibility to go talk to the patient to find out my information so as not to delay patient care in an already extremely busy setting such as outpatient oncology clinic.
Patients and healthcare providers alike have greatly benefitted from his compassion and integrity and I could not see our department running as smoothly without him.
