Ms. Charlotte was the nurse for the patient and I was the CNA with her for the day. We had a patient come in who was confused, kept trying to get out of bed, and refused to let us do anything for her. Ms. Charlotte went into the room in her calm way and starts talking to this lady not asking but gently telling her this is what we need to do and this is what I need from her, always smiling and keeping eye contact with the patient. I joke with Ms. Charlotte and call her the “patient whisperer” because the next thing you know the patient allowed us to do what we needed to do for her. We got her labs drawn, we got her gown on and Ms. Charlotte had her tucked in bed and was feeding her, both of them just smiling and laughing like they were old friends.

She is not just a nurse but a compassionate and loving soul who puts people at ease and they trust her. She takes time with the patients to make sure everything is right and to make sure they are comfortable and to make sure they understand. If I would ever become a nurse I would want to be just like Ms. Charlotte. She is my true definition of what a nurse should be and how people should be treated when they come to our hospital. This is only one story, I could write a book on this lady and how she inspires me and others to be better at what we do every day. If anyone deserves this award I feel it should be her.
