Charlotte has been my nurse several times since I've been admitted to UVA for problems with my Cystic Fibrosis. She has always gone above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed, not just physically but mentally as well. Last time I was admitted in April; I was having a very bad day accepting the news from my doctor that I'd be staying 2 weeks in the hospital. Charlotte told me she was sorry to hear that I was having a bad day and asked if there was anything she could do. She listened as I cried and told her what my doctor and I discussed. I was having a hard time accepting the fact that I'd be away from my son and family for 2 whole weeks and accepting other things my doctor and I discussed. She let me order food from outside the hospital and walked with me to show me where to pick it up. Later that night, she brought me adult coloring pictures and pencils, magazines, cards and a meditation rock. I didn't even ask for these things. She did it out of kindness to try to help me relax and take my mind off of things. I had Charlotte again a few nights before I was discharged from the hospital. She said some words that will always stick in my mind about life. She encouraged me to live everyday like heaven is on earth. The last night she was my nurse, she left me a hand written note. Telling me as always it was a pleasure to take care of me and have me as a patient. She preceded to tell me how happy she was for me to be discharged that day and happy I was feeling better physically and mentally. She was happy I was leaving the hospital with a positive attitude and said I was truly an inspiration. It was the most thoughtful thing a nurse has ever done for me.
I will forever be grateful to her for helping me get through my hospital stay and letting me confide in her. She is really the one that is an inspiration. If everybody could be as nice and kind hearted as Charlotte, the world would be a better place. Charlotte helped me keep a positive attitude in the hospital, which I've continued since I've been home. She always made sure I had everything I needed while I was hospitalized and never made me wait. She checked on me if she knew I was upset or not feeling well. She always took her time while providing my care, she never rushed in and out of my room. She is a great nurse and person.
