Charmaine would bring me warm soup with saltine crackers and sit there with me until I was able to consume the food.
I am writing this nomination on behalf of one of our BMAR patients who asked me to make sure Charmaine Fauconier, RN, gets a DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassionate nurse she provides to her patients. His statement exactly, “I was so reluctant to come out to the 7 Monti unit coming from BMAR unit when my nurses were on top of me. I mean, when I rang the call bell, sneezed, coughed, or even moved my leg off the bed, the nursing staff was right by my side. It was like they were at my service from right to left. Being newly diagnosed with Leukemia and undergoing stem cell transplant and chemotherapy, I was very scared when the nurse manager asked me to transfer to the 7 Monti unit as we had more patients coming in, and the bed was needed. I was nervous and scared, and I did not want to go. She assured me that she would round on me daily and that I would get the same exceptional care as I did in the BMAR unit.

She was right; I was assigned Charmaine Fauconier, and she was my guardian Angel. She would sit and talk with me; she would get me lemon Italian ice and ice chips when I was nauseated. Her soft voice and human spirit were just what I needed. Charmaine would bring me warm soup with saltine crackers and sit there with me until I was able to consume the food. I could not go out of the room on 7 Monti; Charmaine would open the blinds, walk me to the door, and sit with me most of the nights, just talking and reassuring me that I would be okay. These were the little things she did that made me feel like a human being. I would never forget Charmaine, I even told the nurse manager that she needs to clone her because she is an excellent nurse. It was just something about Charmaine. Whenever she was my nurse, I felt safe, and her warm spirit was what I needed during these times.”

Besides being a delight to work with, Charmaine is a take-charge person who can communicate with patients and/or families for their benefit and health. Charmaine not only acts as a role model to the patients but also her colleagues. She supports the new RNs and PCAs by welcoming and appraising them with her positive spirit.
