I was admitted to your hospital in a painful urologic crisis. Throughout the night I had repeated, unrelenting, surges of pain. My nurse, Charmaine Padilla, stayed with me on a nearly 1:1 basis. She understood the patho-physiology of my condition and she was comfortable with the flow-physics of a complex continuous bladder irrigation system. She stayed with me all night, using various resources effectively, and pulled me through it with compassion and reassurance until I received a definitive surgical resolution the next day. Being a nurse is much more than a paycheck; she has earned an award for nursing care at the excellent level. This is not to ignore the splendid care from my other nurses who helped her that night and throughout my hospital stay. I am truly grateful.
