He became relatable to the staff who were in desperate need of a leader.
Chase has been part of the Cleveland Medical Center family for over a decade. He is currently the Head Nurse of the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and the ICU float pool. He is committed to excellence in delivering nursing services, promoting quality, and supporting nursing professional practice. He is a strong patient advocate and team player known for assisting patients, family members, and other colleagues. In July of 2021, Tower 4’s HNM exited the position and Chase graciously stepped in. In the short amount of time he was there he brought many changes to the unit. He came poised, organized, and ready to face all of the complexities the unit was facing. It was the first time in a few years that staff was heard saying there were administrative changes for the better. Chase worked with facilities to help get the unit better organized and held staff accountable for raising BCMA scan rates to over 95%. Chase was instrumental in adjusting the patient population on Tower 4. Pushing back on the admission of more complicated patients in an effort to ease the strain on the bedside nurse. He helped to develop new short-term policies that capped our bed number and again eased the patient load burden. He helped to create a positive work environment of trust, collaboration, and respect, allowing nurses and other healthcare providers to successfully work together as a multidisciplinary team to provide the best care for their patients and families. Chase made a point to connect with the staff on Tower 4 frequently mentioning that he used to work on the unit as a new nurse. He became relatable to the staff who were in desperate need of a leader. He is patient and always willing to listen to staff's frustrations which were many….. Chase is a role model and a mentor to staff. He motivated this team on a daily basis to do their best work. He encouraged this staff to provide their feedback and come up with possible solutions together as a team. He shared his vision for the unit and was open to suggestions for quality improvement, employee engagement/morale, and process improvements. In addition, the staff could depend on him to follow up with issues/questions. Even though Tower 4 has a new Head Nurse, Chase has reached out to several staff members offering mentorship and support. He can be seen on Tower 4 showing support to the staff. I know I speak for many when I say that Chase’s tenure on Tower 4 has built many necessary bridges and we all look forward to a renewed membership with the NSU.
