When a patient's need is identified, Chasity takes immediate action.
Chasity leads by example and authority, while maintaining empathy, safety, and quality. Patients are always at the center of focus. When a patient's need is identified, Chasity takes immediate action.

There are several instances during rounding when a patient or family member has expressed a need or wish. Communicating those requests has led to quick attention either by herself or cascading to an appropriate RN or CNA. One example was a recent elderly patient going home with hospice. The patient was concerned about the 3:00 pm discharge time, and her son, the person she lived with, was absent to make sure things were taken care of at home. The patient was anxious about how she was going to get dressed and other details pertinent to her departure. Chasity immediately relayed these concerns to the RN to ensure this end-of-life patient was being cared for.

Chasity stresses goals and accountability. Moments of reward or moments of discord often become teachable moments. Even after a recent award was given to highlight a team member's accomplishment, Chasity used the opportunity to huddle her team, emphasize the excellent work, but also discussed how things can work even better given certain situations. She is often seen and heard sharing both compliments and expectations with her team.

Treating every circumstance as a learning opportunity, Chasity offers encouragement and fosters growth. While being her team’s number one encourager and promoting their professional development, she also expects accountability from her team members and units. There have been occasions when team members were not allowed an award or recognition if they were in coachable situations. Not being afraid to take corrective action maintains mutual respect and sets expectations of ethical standards.

Chasity seeks data to enhance her units’ efficiency and effectiveness. Whether looking at Ronco call bell data, conditional discharges and times, dashboards for tele neuro consults, she strives to find improvement tools for MedSurg and ICCU. She maintains her own spreadsheets to track position control, productivity, and other operational functions, which leads to decreased spending and enhanced revenue. She seeks ways to improve patient experience and Vizient scores and keeps up-to-date process improvement boards. There has been more than one occasion where she has been mentioned regarding her vigilance and work around hypoglycemia events.

Chasity is always present, prepared for meetings, consistently rounds on her own patients, rounds on other patients assigned through leader rounding, is active on committees, and volunteers for team member engagement activities. This exemplifies true leadership by example.
