My fiancé was taken into the emergency room via ambulance for blood in his stool and vomiting blood. He was admitted. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant in a high-risk pregnancy, and my fiancé is my second chance at life, as I became widowed at age 25 due to my late husband having a fatal asthma attack. This experience was severely traumatizing for both of us because he recently lost his mom, and I, having been widowed before, was extremely anxious, and so were our children at home.

Chauvon was the most incredible nurse. I can't say enough how knowledgeable, attentive, caring, and compassionate she was. One example was when he was complaining of pain after a procedure; she immediately discussed it with the doctor and came back to offer solutions. He wasn't brushed off or told it was just normal; she found a way to help. It felt like she wasn't just caring for a patient; she was caring for someone's partner, someone's dad, and even caring for me and my well-being while I was at his bedside. She communicated every step of the way, always explained each test, medication, and procedure that was recommended, kept us informed, and kept us in great spirits during such a hard time.

The communication about what was going on with his health made him feel better and me as well. Too many times I've been confused about my or a family member's care because there is so little communication, but Chauvon was absolutely incredible, and that wasn't a reality for us this time. We were informed and involved in his care. We truly believe nurses don't just do health care; they do people care, and Chauvon was a perfect example of that. She assessed his needs as a patient while caring for him as a person. She didn't fall short on either side of the great nurse scale. I could leave his side to eat, rest, and shower when she was there because I knew in my soul she was, and would be, the best nurse for him. The relief she brought us during this stay, the quality care and communication, and her overall loving, positive, and supportive personality made her a nurse we will never forget. The world needs more people like Chauvon, especially in healthcare.
