Chelsea and her nurse extern were working in the ED when a young woman, who was developmentally disabled, was brought into the hospital. The young woman lives with and is cared for by her elderly grandmother, who had just been admitted to the ICU.

Since there was no other family nearby to care for the young woman, she spent several days in the ED, alone. It must have been a difficult and frightening experience for this woman, being cared for by complete strangers while being confined to an ED room for several days. Chelsea and her nurse extern took extra time when taking the young woman into the shower room, to bathe her. They provided her with clean clothes and made sure that she felt completely cared for.

Chelsea washed and braided the woman’s hair, displaying love and kindness, above and beyond what was expected. The young woman was so happy following her bath and after getting a new hairstyle. So much of the interaction between Chelsea and this patient was the loving care and tenderness that only a nurse can provide. Chelsea truly exemplified compassion and kindness to the young lady.
