When Chelsea is there, you can tell the difference. The Barnes-Jewish Hospital babies are very lucky and so am I to know her!
This nomination is for my co-worker who also happens to be one of my favorite people ever, so I will try to keep this as unbiased as possible. On Thanksgiving morning, Chelsea saw that we only had one NRT scheduled, and she stayed an hour late for a 25-week delivery. She was not just “an extra set of hands” in this delivery.
Firstly, she made a strong and meaningful connection with this terrified mom, comforting her and encouraging her while she pushed. The baby was delivered and the peds team started a very intense code. Chelsea essentially ran the code, leading the team with ideas about what they could try next, grabbing supplies quickly, anticipating what meds to give, and having them ready. She stayed calm and kept the team focused. The baby was successfully transferred to the NICU. I cried when it was over thinking about what could have gone wrong if she hadn’t been there. Not to mention she was on the 13th hour of her shift.
There are countless times when I could have written this person a DAISY nomination, but I can’t get this morning out of my mind and had to make it known. When Chelsea is there, you can tell the difference. The Barnes-Jewish Hospital babies are very lucky and so am I to know her!
