I could feel that Chelsea’s words were genuine and it touched me to the point of tears
Upon entering the hospital, I was greeted by the person at the door. While giving that person my daughter's name, Chelsea Stephenson overheard and immediately said, "I got her", and took me back to see my daughter. My daughter has cancer which causes a lot of pain for her.
When Chelsea brought me to see my daughter, she did not just usher me to the back and leave, she updated me upon my daughter's condition. She expressed that they were the same age and that her heart and prayers were with her and our family. She went on to comment on my daughter's beauty with her bald head and ask about her children. That was such a rare moment that Chelsea created to make my daughter small and take her mind off the seriousness of her visit if only for a moment. In the midst of the conversation, I could feel that Chelsea’s words were genuine and it touched me to the point of tears. She then walked over to give me a much-needed hug. I understand the state of unrest we are in right now with the pandemic, but Chelsea with her double mask, and me with my single, took a moment to be human. I did not realize how necessary that was until it happened and I appreciate her doing just that. She cared for her patient and her family representative too, me.
Throughout my daughter's visit, Chelsea continuously checked on her. She monitored her pain levels and gave her medicines to help the pain subside. Chelsea was there to make sure my daughter was comfortable before and after surgery. In her final act of active exceptional care for my daughter, Chelsea again interceded with an "I got her", and made sure that she was the one who rolled my daughter out to the car. I did not even mention the care I witnessed her giving other patients just as she gave my daughter. The words above and beyond are hard to use for Chelsea. There has to be extra effort put in to justify that. This is normal patient care for her. She cares and was born to be a Nurse.
