Having my daughter in the NICU after delivery was the hardest string that has ever been pulled on my heart. Chelsey played a major role in my day-to-day positivity throughout the process. From day one, she made sure to explain every single thing that was going on, so that it left no room in my mind for overthinking. Although my daughter may have been her patient on paper, Chelsey very much made my husband and me feel like one of hers as well. She took every opportunity she had to involve us, no matter how big or small the task. We never once felt like we were in the way or causing a distraction. During feedings and one-on-one time with my daughter, Chelsey always checked in on us and made us feel so comfortable. Even when news had to be delivered that may not have been positive, she delivered it to us in a way that still made us, as parents, hopeful and optimistic. Every question we had, she answered confidently in detail. Even after I broke down crying when my daughter was being admitted one day and having an IV/NG tube put in her the next, I still found myself saying after we left the unit, “I really like her nurse. I’m glad this nurse is taking care of our daughter.” Thank you to this nurse for being a light for my family throughout the entire process.
