Chelsey was with K every day for the first 10 days of his stay at the Ross and she helped him push through the hardest time of his illness.
My husband, K, was admitted to The Ross CVICU for ECMO due to COVID. This was the scariest and most challenging thing that we have gone through as a family. When we arrived to see K, Chelsey was his nurse and the first assigned to his case. K’s COVID case was particularly scary, due to how young he is, and no underlying health conditions.

Chelsey was with K every day for the first 10 days of his stay at the Ross and she helped him push through the hardest time of his illness and also took the time to teach us about his treatment like the ECMO machine and trach. Chelsey’s confidence in her work and the way she worked tirelessly to keep K comfortable made me and his parents feel comfortable as well. There were times when Chelsey was scheduled to be off and she would reassure us of her confidence in her team and that we are always welcome to call the nurse on shift for any questions or worries while we weren’t able to be at the hospital.

Chelsey gave outstanding care and commitment to my husband’s health, but also to us as his family. Chelsey’s amount of dedication to seeing her patients get better is beyond just a job and I wanted to recognize her for making a difference in my husband’s life.

A picture of K's lungs was drawn by Nurse Chelsey the day my son had his double lung transplant from COVID. She is the Michael Jordan of the Dream Team of Nurses who took care of K. One of the most knowledgeable, sharing, and by far the best Critical Care nurse K had. I have been in business 39 years and have employed thousands of people and am rarely impressed to the level that I saw her do her job. Chelsey has more than a passion and calling for her job. She was meant for it. GOAT of her field. She is an angel who walks among us doing God's work.

Below is my accompanying post on Facebook. I left her name out at the time. This is a public post on my personal Facebook.

• K update day 65 since Covid positive. • Lung Transplant • K had quite a few levels of progress today • He spoke to J the first time • K stood for 1 minute • Was off ventilator for 7.5 continuous hours on a trach mask with 50% oxygen • Spoke with J2 through trach device for over 10 minutes she was so happy to hear his voice • K was eating ice chips, ate a whole cookie and ate apple sauce. All of the above with his trach still in.  A picture of lungs was drawn by one of K’s nurses the day he received his lung transplant This particular Nurse is the Michael Jordan of the Dream Team of Nurses that K has had. For some reason, I immediately see Angel Wings instead of Lungs. I put the arrow in the picture to point to the spot where you could insert your favorite Nurse, Doctor, or Healthcare worker They truly have a calling. So many are Angelic to me as they actually are doing God's work. They have done some amazing things through COVID. Share the Lung Drawing. Tell the Angel story to any healthcare workers you know. Insert their picture between these “Angel Wings”. Thank them for all they have done and continue to do. So many are so overworked. Many look very defeated well before their 5th or 9th or 17th consecutive12 hour plus shift is due to be over. They need serious appreciation and are truly doing GOD’S work. I am happy K is recovering. I can’t even tell you how many people that work at the hospital were rooting for WIN in this case. These Healthcare Workers really needed a WIN here. “Embrace This Challenge” The new Acronym. ETC. This acronym IMHO could not be more prophetic in this case. K’s story, since getting his lung transplant, looks like it could have quite a few more etc. etc. etc. in it. K has and will EMBRACE THIS CHALLENGE of healing and rehabbing.
