I was speechless when I got the package, a personalized, MLB official Red Sox jersey! When I found the card that revealed the mystery of my benefactor, I was moved to tears.
I was diagnosed with a terminal illness earlier this year. During this time, I have had many trips to the ER and have had interactions with many nurses. Most of these interactions have been very good, a few not so much, and one in particular that can only be described as beyond exceptional. This particular nurse may have looked 12, but she is wise beyond her years. She listened to me, and she actually heard me. I talked about my bucket list and how I wanted to see the Red Sox play live, how I had never been to an MLB game, and that I was seeing the Red Sox play in Cleveland that weekend. Actually, I was extremely adamant that I couldn’t be admitted to the hospital, as I was leaving in a few days. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this once or twice, or 30 times. The hospital was pretty full and the ER was rocking, yet Chelsey Spath made me feel as if I were her only patient and she had all the time in the world to spend with me. I don’t normally classify a night in the ER as fun, but I can tell you there was laughter to go around that evening. Chelsey even checked back the next day to make sure I had gotten a room.

I thought this was the end of our relationship and that I most likely wouldn’t have any interaction with her in the future. And yet, this lovely young lady surpassed my expectations once again. A few weeks ago I got a package in the mail that blew me completely away. Not only did she remember our entire conversation, but she used her own time and money to send me the most amazing gift. I was speechless when I got the package, a personalized, MLB official Red Sox jersey! When I found the card that revealed the mystery of my benefactor, I was moved to tears. As was everyone I shared it with. This amazing woman who took care of me and listened to me and came back to check on me, the best nurse I’ve ever had the pleasure to encounter, is calling ME incredible?? There aren’t words to describe how humbled I was by her kindness. I wish I could be here 20 or 30 years from now, I would love to see the person she evolves into. The future looks so bright. Follow your heart and your instincts you amazing woman!
