Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a special place because the patients there are newborns who are unable to express themselves except through crying. So it is particularly important that NICU staff provide excellent, professional and competent care and Chen Jie is an outstanding one who does exactly this.
Jie has always worked very hard even when she was carrying her own second child. She cares about those infants as if they were her own children. One day, a premature infant was admitted to our unit and was found to be particularly dirty. We complained that the family and medical staff from the former hospital should have taken better care to keep the baby clean. Jie, saying nothing, picked the baby up and took him to the bathroom where she carefully and gently bathed the infant and applied baby oil. The baby smelled so good then after that he was remarkably appealing! Another busy day, I struggled to feed one of my patients who seemed grumpy and unready to eat. I had to care for other patients as well, so I did not give extra time to this fussy baby. It was Jie who took the time to be with this baby, comfort him and feed him, rather than take some available, needed rest, as a pregnant nurse!
I am so touched by Chen Jie's care for the patients! She is an excellent nurse!

Thank you, Chen, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
