We trust Cher’s knowledge, dedication, and work ethic. Cher works well with others and often collaborates with other multidisciplinary teams and specialty clinics to provide care for complex patients.
Passion for nursing

Cher has always been passionate and proud to present nursing. She has been a dedicated mentor countless times to our nursing profession students, including nurse practitioner students, and provides a safe learning environment for these students. She not only provides excellent examples of how a great nurse/nurse practitioner should be but also always encourages nursing students/nurse practitioner students to practice on top of their licenses and knowledge. When one of our beloved LVN went back to school to be an RN, Cher not only provided encouragement, praise, support but also provided physical assistance to our nurse to show her true love.

Compassion

I have known Cher for > 25 years, during all this time, Cher over and over again has always demonstrated her dedication in her work when caring for patients. She always takes extra steps in reaching out to patients who are the most vulnerable, i.e., homeless, and live by themselves…to make sure that patients will not miss medications or treatment. Cher is always proactive in her approach for all patients, but especially those vulnerable and in need of another department, such as HT monitoring, palliative care, social workers, and case managers…involved to get the patients all the needs they deserve. Cher has always the fearless advocate for the patients to getting the high quality of care.

Empathy in the situation

Cher loves her patients. She knows many of her patients by name and knows their situations. When one of her patients was in hospice care, she came to visit the patient often, talked to patient, laughed with him, gave him the best moments in his final moments. One of the patients who lives alone with his dog lost his beloved dog, and Cher recruited help to find the patient’s dog. These are only a few of the valuable examples of when Cher shows her empathy and true compassion for others and her patients.

Trust and teamwork

In our heart failure clinic, though Cher does not acknowledge that she is our leader, we look up to her as a mentor, a leader who guides our heart failure team and upholds our standard of care. We trust Cher’s knowledge, dedication, and work ethic. Cher works well with others and often collaborates with other multidisciplinary teams and specialty clinics to provide care for complex patients.

Admirable attributes

Cher’s dedication to always improving her work and her skills are admirable. By herself, Cher has been able to identify 12 new patients with amyloidosis who might have been missed with this difficult diagnosis and have them received the appropriate treatments they need.

True love for the nursing profession and love for the patient

Cher is always so proud to be a nurse and nurse practitioner. She is always proudly tell patients “I’m not a physician, I am a nurse practitioner!” Yes she is an amazing nurse practitioner whose love and dedication for the profession allows her to practice in nursing profession for >25 years. As an experienced heart failure nurse practitioner, she has provided exceptional care to the patients. I hear many patients express their gratitude for Cher. Some of her patients said “I will do anything NP Cher asks me to do.”

Selflessness

During COVID-19, when many providers had the opportunity to work from home, Cher chose to come into the clinic every single day (she did not miss any days) to make sure our vets were taken care of and had someone to keep an eye on them.

I proudly nominate Cher Hagaman to be the recipient of the most honorable DAISY Award because on every single level and aspect of nursing, Cher exemplifies what a nursing professional provider should be and should strive to be.
