Chere consistently exemplifies clinical excellence, sound judgment, and unwavering dedication to patient care, particularly during high-stress, critical events. One remarkable instance that highlights her exceptional performance occurred during a Code Blue event for a post-operative cardiac surgery patient in the 6E unit.

Chere’s rapid assessment and clear communication with the team enabled the safe and efficient transfer of the patient from the floor to the bed—crucial moments that set the tone for what followed. Her swift decision-making and critical interventions during the initial phase of the code with CPR and emergency medications, even before the cardiac team arrived, significantly contributed to the positive outcome for the patient.

In this case, the patient required an emergent chest opening and ECMO initiation right on the 6E unit itself. Chere remained at the bedside throughout the process, assisting providers with poise and precision. Her presence was not only technically valuable but emotionally grounding for the team. She stayed with the patient for nearly three hours, ensuring every step was executed with care and urgency until the patient was safely transported to the OR.

Beyond the bedside, Chere also provided insightful feedback during the post-code debriefing. Her clinical knowledge and experience enrich team learning and enhance our preparedness for future emergencies. Chere’s leadership, calm under pressure, and relentless commitment to saving lives make her an outstanding candidate for this recognition. She truly embodies the spirit of excellence we strive for in the EUH nursing team.

Thank you, Chere L, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
