Cherie is nominated for the DAISY Award because she doesn't simply provide exceptional nursing care-she creates unforgettable moments for our patients and their families.
Recently, we cared for a patient who had been hospitalized for more than 60 days, spending the majority of that time in the ICU. His recovery was remarkable, and his discharge marked a tremendous milestone. Chere recognized just how meaningful this moment was and was determined to make it one he would never forget. Chere coordinated a special sendoff. She reached out to team members throughout the hospital. She organized everyone to gather in the hospital lobby before his discharge without the patient knowing. When the patient arrived downstairs, he was met with a little crowd of smiling faces, applause, cheers, and the caregivers who had supported him through some of the most difficult days of his life. He was completely surprised and deeply moved by the celebration. It was a beautiful reminder that he wasn't just another patient; he was part of our hospital family.
This moment perfectly reflects who Chere is. She always puts patients first and goes above and beyond to celebrate their victories, no matter how big or small. Her compassion, initiative, and ability to unite an entire team to honor a patient's journey are what make her an extraordinary nurse and an inspiration to those around her.
