She cares deeply for her patients, often treating them like family and making sure that they, and their loved ones, are kept as comfortable as possible.
We had a patient admitted to our unit with a new diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer, likely non-treatable and terminal. Needless to say, both the patient and family were struggling with this huge news. Cheree provided excellent, compassionate care to both the patient and their family over the course of his initial prolonged visit, going above and beyond to ensure that their questions were heard and answered. This patient was discharged home and then re-admitted after a significant decline over a weekend. Cheree was once again the assigned nurse and continued to advocate for their patient’s comfort and plan of care. She utilized different resources to improve the patient’s ease of breathing, comfort, and encouraged the family to not only gather around the patient but also focus on their comfort and quality of life as they came to terms with their death drawing near. This patient ended up passing just after handoff during change of shift, prior to Cheree being off for a few days. Cheree stayed after her shift ended to help prep the patient’s body and make their room presentable for their family to come. She stayed with the wife until the family was able to be with her so that she was not alone. She cares deeply for her patients, often treating them like family and making sure that they, and their loved ones, are kept as comfortable as possible. Cheree is an inspiration to me and so many others. Cheree always goes above and beyond for her patients and her coworkers.
