Cherry exemplifies all the good qualities a nurse should have. She is truly compassionate. To her, her patients are family and they can feel that. When my mom was seriously ill and not very responsive, she cried when she saw my dad trying to hold her hand and tell her he loves her. When there is something wrong with one of her patients she will try to stay there with them not only to resolve the issue but to give emotional support. No issue is too small for her. If it is important to the patient or their family she asks the right questions and gives her patients a sense of worth, by making sure they get the treatment they require or simply holding the patient's hand to comfort them.

They say laughter is the best medicine, well, so is love, and her patients can surely feel her love. When my mom was eventually moved to a different room it was hard to accept she would not have Cherry nearby. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Cherry came by my mom's room on her own time to check on her. I've met some good nurses and a few great ones, but Cherry is the best. If my mom should survive her issues, I'll know it's because Cherry put her on that path and this extended family of hers will never forget it.
