Cheryl was described as a "Godsend" in how she cared for her dying daughter.
This nomination comes from an experience shared by a current patient who remembers Cheryl caring for her daughter. This patient's daughter unfortunately passed at the age of 39. This admission is very difficult for the patient as she tearfully shares that her daughter died just a couple of rooms down from hers.

Cheryl was described as a "Godsend" in how she cared for her dying daughter. As the patient conveyed to me, Cheryl was the one who finally told her daughter that she was dying. She knew her daughter was dying; they all did, but the doctors did not tell her directly, and she couldn't tell her own daughter that she was dying. A mother should not have to carry such weight. As she described to me, the providers did not talk directly to her daughter but instead spoke in front of her and about her to the rest of the family. She also shared that her daughter was contacted by hospice and asked her, "Mom, why is hospice trying to talk to me?" This patient had so many wonderful things to say about Cheryl and the tenderness she exhibited. She says she had thank you cards to send to Cheryl and a few other nurses, but she could never bring herself to write on them. In the time since her daughter passed, she also wanted to come by and say thank you personally, but again, this place has such bad memories for her. She also lost her son when he was 26. A mother shouldn't have to bury all her children, but the kindness Cheryl freely gave will always be cherished by this patient.
