Cheryl is an excellent Nurse who consistently exceeds expectations, goes above and beyond on a daily basis, and humbly gives her full attention to our Participants to ensure that their needs are met every day.
Cheryl Johnson is our dedicated Nurse at Mercy Adult Day Health in Westfield and has been for the past twenty-five years. Yes, for twenty-five years, Cheryl has been providing quality, compassionate care to our Participants at Mercy Adult Day Health. Cheryl is an excellent Nurse who consistently exceeds expectations, goes above and beyond on a daily basis, and humbly gives her full attention to our Participants to ensure that their needs are met every day.
Cheryl's nursing skills are excellent, and she provides consistent quality care, keeping the Participant's needs at the forefront of all she does. In addition to Cheryl's excellent nursing skills, Cheryl goes above and beyond every day to make sure That the non-nursing needs of the participants are met. Cheryl worked tirelessly for at least one year with a transportation company that had stopped providing transportation to the outlying hill towns. This burdened a Participant’s aging family who had to then start transporting their loved one to and from Mercy Adult Day Health. Cheryl never gave up, and after a year of communicating with and appealing to the Transportation company, they, indeed, did start to provide transportation again for our Participant residing in the hill towns. Her family expressed great relief, and the Caregiver Burden was lessened.
Cheryl is wonderful to work with. In addition to her great nursing skills, Cheryl has an uplifting personality, always smiling and has a great outlook on life. Her happiness is contagious! Cheryl has a sure-fire way to combat stress – “dad jokes”! Cheryl is always ready with a corny but funny “dad joke” to lighten the mood or divert someone’s tunnel vision.
Cheryl is retiring at the end of May 2024. It has been my honor and pleasure to work with Cheryl over the past year plus. Cheryl is the glue that has held Mercy Adult Day Health together for the past twenty-five years by not only being a great Nurse for our Participants and support for Families but also as a mentor to all the staff. Cheryl has excellent communication skills and works to keep staff working together as a team.
In preparation for her retirement, Cheryl is creating a binder with a lot of vital information for the newly hired Nurse. Not only does this binder give Nursing responsibilities and processes but also a lot of general but important information about how everything in the building works, the “how to” for instance how to work the thermostat, and the “when this happens” for instance “when the ice maker stops working”. Additionally, Cheryl has reached out to another Adult Day Health to seek that Nurse’s permission to leave her name and number for our newly hired Nurse to call with any ADH Nursing process questions.
As a Healthcare Organization, we would be remiss if we did not strongly consider Cheryl Johnson, RN, for the DAISY Award 2024. Cheryl is an outstanding Nurse and Human Being. I strive every day to be “more like Cheryl.”
P.S. In recent years Cheryl has taken on a lot more non-nursing responsibilities to ensure all Participants needs are met. Cheryl does everything from making breakfast for the Participants including serving, doing the dishes, filling in to do Chair Yoga, fixing items to avoid need to replace, and cleaning toilets etc. just to mention a few examples.
