If it weren't for her encouragement to go to urgent care and her constant care that morning, I would not be here.
I went to my infusion appointment as usual. Upon arriving, my nurse noticed that my breathing was labored and not right, not to mention I looked awful. She knew something was off. She had a feeling in her gut that there was more going on. She was right to be concerned.
After checking me in and getting me settled, she was still not satisfied with the blood pressure machine's readings. Not only did she disagree with the machine, but she also chose to perform a Manual blood pressure check, pulse check, and listen to my heart through a stethoscope. She informed me that something was off; my heartbeat was irregular. She still had concerns in her eyes. Everything was going wrong and was very abnormal.

She could see that I was scared of what was happening and more. She gave compassion, friendship, hugs, advice, trust, and a shoulder to cry on that day. I cried so hard twice, she let me cry, and all she did was hold me so I could. I was terrified.

She encouraged me to visit the urgent care center. Well, I went and from there to Aurora South Hospital. I was in Atrial Fibrillation, close to a stroke or death. The thing is, the symptoms mimic Asthma. After a few days in the hospital, I am feeling much better. Cheryl is not only an asset to the nursing field but to the Kaiser Permanente Organization. She is a true nurse. When she took the medical oath, it was a passion for her. She looks at each of her patients as a person, not a number or a dollar sign. If it weren't for her encouragement to go to urgent care and her constant care that morning, I would not be here.

She went above and beyond her duty as a nurse. She called me that evening and two days later to check on me to see if I was ok. I would like to thank her for trusting her instincts and quick thinking but more important not letting it go. Thank you for your care, Cheryl Rice. There is not enough 'thank you' I can say to the gift you gave, which gave my life back. Angels are all around us, but it takes a special angel to notice what you did. You're an Angel on Earth!
