Since my hospital stay in 2018, I've had another round of procedures at the hospital and had occasion to work with Cheryl Masterpaul.
In January, I had a lumpectomy at the Queen. Prior to this, I had been admitted via the emergency room in December to monitor my condition after a procedure I'd had at another facility with subsequent issues with breathing. It was thought by the Queen's attending physician that I might have pneumonia or had aspirated during the general anesthetic.
I had several phone calls with Cheryl regarding the January procedure. She guided me through the pre-op procedure of using the new antiseptic wipes, what medicines I could take prior to the procedure, and answered any concerns or questions I had. At the time, I was suffering from a really bad cold and worried about having another procedure under general anesthetic during this period. Cheryl was again very helpful and reading my inpatient chart about the expected pneumonia, she arranged for the doctor to order a follow-up chest x-ray. I so appreciated her doing this on my behalf as I was not feeling well enough myself to make more phone calls to organize this. She kept me informed at every step in this process, such as when she made the request when she heard it had been agreed to, etc.
As is usual, she called to remind me of the operation day and time but it wasn't just a routine call for her. She cared enough to ask how I was feeling and talk me through the timing and logistics of the pre-lumpectomy wire insertion at the Breast Center. I truly felt looked after and cared about. Although I was very confident about the surgery with my dream team of doctors, I was also made to feel by Cheryl that the hospital was also taking very good care of me.
She is a very valuable member of your staff.
