Cheryl’s consistent care and clear communication began to be the anchor to our stay.
Cheryl’s consistency and cheerful disposition when caring for our daughter soothed our nerves across the two and a half days we were at UVMMC for our daughter to recover from an exposure to Shigella/E. Coli. One of the more overwhelming aspects of being in the hospital with your child is trying to put the names and faces together for the entire team caring for your child. In the first thirty minutes of being there, we probably met 6 different people. Eventually - once we had a grasp on the situation- Cheryl’s consistent care and clear communication began to be the anchor to our stay. If we needed something or had a question, we felt comfortable asking Cheryl because she always treated us not just with respect but with a genuine disposition. At one point during the first day, Cheryl and a doctor were discussing, in coded language, our daughter’s heart rate. Not wanting to be left in the dark, we asked Cheryl to pull the curtain on the conversation so that we would know what was going on with our daughter. Rather than shut us off with a vague response, Cheryl explained the process to us in detail, giving a mini education in the process. We never once felt like she wanted to rush out of the room – even when we had question after question. In the whirlwind, she was there and she cared for our daughter, eventually drawing out the playful little girl from the sick one.
