November 2011 Honoree
cheryl raban, RN
Cheryl, a senior nurse in the SICU, consistently demonstrates Rush’s I-CARE values in her work on the unit. The nomination highlights some of the work Cheryl has done away from work to support a member of the SICU family. Earlier this year, one of our nurses suffered a terrible loss when her teen daughter died from a severe asthma attack. Cheryl spearheaded an effort to create a memorial tree at the school the young girl attended. She contacted the school, found and purchased a tree, and raised money from the SICU. Nurses from our unit attended the event and said it was a meaningful and beautiful dedication. The nomination Cheryl received from a co-worker read:
I would like to nominate Cheryl Raban for the DAISY Award. In addition to being an expert clinician and a wonderful charge nurse, Cheryl is a kind soul who cares about all of her co-workers. There are countless examples of things Cheryl has done to help staff in times of need. The most recent example would be the tree dedication for her coworker. I can only imagine this tree will continue be a comfort and remembrance to the students, teachers, friends and family. Cheryl went above and beyond and absolutely deserves recognition for her kind heart and giving spirit.
