While caring for a patient, Cheyanna discovered that the patient was at risk of losing his dog, E, to the pound if he did not leave the hospital. The patient's wife was in the hospital as well, and there was no one left to care for E if he did not leave AMA. Cheyanna spent some time with the patient, educating him about the treatment that was needed. This allowed the patient to open up to her to express how much support E provided to him and that he could not emotionally deal with losing another pet due to these circumstances.

Cheyanna, being a pet lover herself, took the dog home, bathed, groomed, and cared for E for the remainder of the patient's hospital stay. On the day of discharge, Cheyanna, on her off day, brought E to the hospital to reunite him with his owner. The patient was brought to tears by her generosity and willingness to care for his loved one so he could get well enough to care for E himself. The level of compassion that Cheyanna displayed to care for not only the patient's physical well-being but also his emotional needs displays her unwavering commitment to her patients. She took the time to know her patient and make a connection that will now make a lasting impact on this patient.

Thank you, Cheyanna, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
