LT. Parker always held patients in high esteem and ensured that they received the absolute best medical care in a timely manner.
LT. Parker managed to maintain an aura of positivity in trying times both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Near and dear to my heart was the ED staffing issue where EMT staffing wasn't being replaced at an adequate rate or amount to sustain operations in a healthy manner. LT. Parker was on top of the issue and placed the request for additional staffing well in advance and after much stonewalling was granted the request. This relieved operational stress of the EMT staff thus preventing stress-related adverse patient outcomes from burnout and overworking
In addition to identifying and preventing the staffing issue, LT. Parker was our ADH during the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. LT. Parker managed to adapt and stay ahead of the ever-changing COVID-19 care and practice guidelines and spearheaded the construction of the triage tents and ensured that no excessive risks and harm came to staff and patients. Due to LT. Parker's efforts a grand total of zero Emergency Department staff contracted COVID-19 and as such was able to maintain optimal staffing levels providing the very best patient care for all of our beneficiaries
During his tenure as ADH LT. Parker had two main goals: to keep the staff both healthy and happy and to provide the absolute best care for patients. With great determination LT. Parker managed to accomplish and exceed at both, often at great expense and cost to himself going above and beyond what is expected of a lieutenant, or a department head would normally do. If a nurse were to ever call in sick or had to go on emergency leave, LT. Parker was all too often the very first volunteer for stepping in and covering down on the floor. Whenever LT. Parker had to pull shifts on the floor he was an absolute joy to work with for both the EMT staff and patients. He always held patients in high esteem and ensured that they received the absolute best medical care in a timely manner.
In addition to patient care, LT. Parker managed to both train and teach junior nurses as well as EMTs and Corpsmen in techniques such as ultrasound-guided IV's as well as conducting more didactic training on medical topics such as the PECARN algorithm which came in incredibly handy when EMT staff responded to a medical emergency for a child with head trauma. LT. Parker is the absolute epitome of what it means to be a nurse, a naval officer, and a leader. He not only inspires me but my peers as well to always strive for more. To develop not only ourselves but that of the department and provide the best medical care and compassion to any and all patients.
