Chris was recently nominated by a grateful patient who is also a nurse:
I was scheduled for a tricky procedure that required a more complicated intubation process which I found more frightening than the procedure itself. The morning of the procedure, Chris came in sat on the end of my bed, and reached out and touched my foot and said, "I want to speak with you because I know you are scared". When I started to cry, Chris waited quietly for me to regain my composure. Then he said the most powerful words I've ever heard: "What I want to tell you is that I am going to treat you like my family, my wife, my sister, or my mother. Your safety and comfort are my most important goals. I promise you I will keep you safe today."
Those words meant so much to me at a time when fear had overcome all my senses. This small act of kindness allowed me to relax and trust that all would go smoothly. We sometimes forget those small acts sometimes have the largest impact on a situation. Chris' true compassion and concern will never be forgotten.
Thank you, Chris, for your extraordinary compassion. You are an outstanding role model in our PCRMC nursing community!
