The beginning of the New Year was incredibly difficult for our family as our loved one was taken into Mercy Hospital due to an overdose. Our loved one had dealt with pain for years throughout the majority of his adult life due to two spinal fractures. Unfortunately, our loved one had become addicted to painkillers and drugs that relieved his discomfort, even if only temporarily. Our loved one was wheeled into Mercy Anderson unconscious and put on a breathing machine. He was essentially braindead and unresponsive for several days as our family gathered around him with uncertainty, fear, and grief. Ever since Chris was assigned as the nurse for our loved one, our family could easily recognize the devotion he had toward his responsibilities. Despite a drug overdose, Chris never judged our loved one and went above in beyond to provide him with the greatest of care.
During that difficult time, it was hard to recall anyone other than our loved one and the immense pain that overcame us. As doctors and specialists appeared, left, and reappeared our family heard several opinions and information regarding our loved one's progress. Chris was always a positive presence in our loved one's hospital room and somehow managed to combine everything each individual doctor was confirming in a way that was easy for our grieving family to understand. He always kept us up to date on any new developments and throughout my loved one's stay provided us with sincere comfort, unlike any other nurse we have ever met.
Sadly, our loved one did eventually pass away. He was considered braindead but because he was a candidate to be an organ donor, he was kept alive via the monitors. During this time, Chris treated our loved one with the utmost respect and dignity, continuing to provide him the care he would have with any other patient. It's been over a month since we have lost our loved one, but our family still remembers the kindness and compassion given to us and our loved one during this trying period in our lives. Because of this, on behalf of our entire family want to thank Chris for going above and beyond his line of work to provide us with critical updates and medical knowledge as well as the compassion and care grieving families need to overcome the death of a loved one. Chris was not only an Extraordinary Nurse for our loved one, but he was also a friend to our family in our time of need.
