Chris cares a lot about the delivery of care he provides and is always looking for ways to grow.
It’s not every day one gets an opportunity to be a patient in your own emergency department. I had the chance to experience firsthand the type of care we deliver. It is my pleasure to nominate the nurse who took care of me in the ED, Chris, for the DAISY Award. I not only observed the care delivered by Chris to me but his interactions with his other patients and their family. Chris cares a lot about the delivery of care he provides and is always looking for ways to grow. The ED was very busy, and Chris had a heavy load, even with all of this he took the time to check in on me. Outstanding clinically, he also displayed the compassion we want to see in our staff, he took time with a tough patient next door and her family while still making sure I was getting my needs addressed.
During my visit, Chris had a nursing student who was doing her Preceptor hours with him. She raved about how wonderful he was and all of the things he had taught her. It showed in the care she was able to deliver, and the best part was he had taken the time to write her a very in-depth reference letter which he had sent me earlier in the day. It is wonderful to see our experienced nurses supporting the students and new staff. Chris is always open to learning and just received another certification to broaden his own education. I think this is somewhere around six or seven national certifications he has behind his name. The openness to learn new things, the ability to teach others, the compassionate care at the bedside, the clinical skills, and the desire to be the best nurse he can be makes Chris the perfect candidate for the DAISY Award.
