He also, at one point, held my hand, had me look him in the eyes, and told me as a friend, "You matter. I care for you. You deserve to live".
Being an RN myself, it can be hard to be on the patient side of things, being cared for by my co-workers. Chris Cox, RN is a kind, compassionate & very skilled nurse. I can see he takes his Rapid Response Nurse role very seriously. In one of the lowest moments of my life, he felt like an angel swooping in to save me. I intentionally had overdosed on pills and was in/out of consciousness with shallow breathing & low respiratory rate. He arrived quickly after being called & started his assessment, information gathering & clearly being the team leader role. Knowing he was there made me feel safe. He told me if I get scared, not to worry, there's a reversal drug. He also, at one point, held my hand, had me look him in the eyes, and told me as a friend, "You matter. I care for you. You deserve to live". A lot of people shy away from talking about suicide. Chis, did not. And he made me feel like I was worth living & surviving my attempt to end my life. I recommend him for the DAISY Award for his critical skills & more importantly, his compassion. Thank you.
