On my very first day of chemotherapy, I had a terrible allergic reaction to the chemo. Chris helped me calm down and kept the mood light by cracking jokes. When I was given the substitute version of the first chemo, I was still in quite a bit of pain and shock. Chris was an extra support system for me (my parents were still quite dazed) and honestly, he made me feel better in no time. Unfortunately, the second chemo also made me feel odd and we asked Chris to turn the machine off. While the doctors were doubting me and making conclusions that I was "paranoid" and the feelings were all in my head, Chris stood by my side and supported me. Having Chris believe me and say he thought it was an allergic reaction as well, may seem like a small thing but in the moment, it meant the world to me. In a way, it's an example of what makes a nurse so amazing. They do so much more than access ports or place IVs and check patients in. Nurses like Chris form bonds with their patients and dedicate their day to the kids who walk in the door. I hate blood but Chris has inspired me to want to become a nurse. Even though he isn't the typical warm and fuzzy nurse, he made me laugh through some tough days and is awesome at his job! Although I finished my chemotherapy in June, my memories of the infusion room are as positive as chemo can be because of Chris.
