Chris listened intently to my patient, he made eye contact with her and held her hand as she shared her fears. She began to cry as she shared, and Chris gave her a big hug.
Caring-Empathetic-Thoughtful
Chris is always the first person of the day that showers his patients and co-workers with compliments and positive energy. I’ve watched him in action several times as he demonstrates empathy with a kind and caring heart.
He was assisting me with discontinuing a PCA pump on a patient who had previously had a VATS procedure. Chris immediately picked up on my patient’s anxiety about discontinuing the PCA pump and wondering how she’d be discharged home without it. Chris listened intently to my patient, he made eye contact with her and held her hand as she shared her fears. She began to cry as she shared, and Chris gave her a big hug. After Chris left the room, I could see my patient’s demeanor change and her fears lessen. She began smiling and was happy when Chris would come around. Chris made her feel validated and safe.

Goes Above and Beyond
I’ve been at Rideout since April and Chris has gone above and beyond for his patients, my patients, and our co-workers. Though I’m not a new nurse, Chris lessens my fear when it comes to asking, “dumb questions”. I know that I can ask him anything and that he won’t judge me for it. I feel extremely supported by him and am lucky to get to work with him. In talking with the new grads on our unit, we all love it when we work with him! He’s supportive, kind, and encouraging. He’s the kind of nurse I aspire to be one day.
