Chris has transported some of the sickest pediatric patients this organization has ever seen. She is the “eyes and ears” for our physicians who can’t physically be there to make decisions for their patients.
It is often hard to put into words what a pediatric critical care nurse does. Like many other areas in the hospital, unless you have done it you won’t truly understand it. Chris Wibrew has dedicated over 30 years of her life to the Orlando Health Organization with the majority of those years on the Arnold Palmer Hospital pediatric transport team.

It's near impossible to describe a specific situation or story, demonstrating the meaningful impact Chris has made in the lives of both her patients and her co-workers because making a difference is simply something that she does on a continual basis. Chris has transported some of the sickest pediatric patients this organization has ever seen. She is the “eyes and ears” for our physicians who can’t physically be there to make decisions for their patients. Unlike being on the units, Chris works closely with one other individual in the back of the ambulance or helicopter. With limited resources, she constantly makes critical care decisions that can have a huge impact on a patient’s outcome. In addition, Chris is a huge advocate for her patients. She is not afraid to speak to a physician to upgrade a patient to a higher level of care or vocalize what she thinks is best for the patient.

Over the past thirty plus years, Chris has stayed late, come in early, and come in on her day off to ensure our patient population receives the care they need. Chris has missed important personal life events in order to ensure our department has the staff we need so we are ready to serve our community.

As a new nurse to this team, I was lucky enough to have Chris as one of my preceptors. Chris went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. She was extremely patient, kind, and answered all my questions without hesitation or judgment. I got to see firsthand how much she truly loves her job and the patients she takes care of. From day one I could tell that Chris has earned the respect of this team. It is obvious that Chris has made her co-workers feel comfortable going to her with any questions, problems, and concerns. This is probably because Chris always listens intently and has a way of providing support and encouragement even if the issue may be viewed as small.

Because of Chris’s valued input and respected reputation, she has not only brought improved quality outcomes to our department but to the organization as well. I would love Chris to know that her dedication and efforts over the years have not gone unnoticed. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
